Nothing is uploaded
The zip is opened by code running in your browser tab. The site’s security policy blocks it from sending your data to any server, including ours.
No login, ever
Apps that ask for your Instagram password can get your account locked or hacked. Followback only reads the file Instagram gave you.
Check it yourself
Install the app, turn on airplane mode, and load your export. It still works, because there was never anything to send.
Why it’s different
An Instagram unfollowers checker that never asks for your password
Most “who unfollowed me” apps want you to log in with your Instagram username and password. They then sign in as you from their own servers, which can trigger Instagram’s security checks and gives a stranger full access to your account.
Followback works the other way around. Instagram already lets you download your own followers and following list from Accounts Center. You load that file here, and Followback compares the two lists on your device to show who doesn’t follow you back, who unfollowed you since your last check, your fans, your mutuals and any pending follow requests. It’s free, it works on iPhone, Android and computers, and it can’t follow, unfollow or post anything on your account.
