How to see who unfollowed you on Instagram
Instagram doesn’t send a notification when someone unfollows you, and there’s no “unfollowers” list in the app. You can still find out. Here are three ways, from quickest to most complete.
1. Check one person by hand
If you only want to know about one account, open their profile, tap Following, and search for your username. If you don’t appear, they don’t follow you. This works for a few people, but it’s slow for more than that, and it won’t work on private accounts you don’t follow.
2. Compare two of your Instagram exports
Instagram lets you download your own followers list from Accounts Center. If you download it twice, a week or two apart, anyone who is in the first list but missing from the second has unfollowed you (or deactivated their account).
Comparing two long lists by eye is hard, which is where a checker helps.
3. Let Followback compare them for you
Followback reads the export file Instagram gives you, right in your browser. The first time, it saves just your follower usernames on your device. The next time you load a newer export, the Unfollowed you tab lists everyone who left since then.
- No Instagram login or password.
- Your file isn’t uploaded anywhere.
- It’s free. Pro adds a dated history of every unfollow and a follower chart.
Tips for accurate results
- Request only Followers and following in JSON format. It arrives faster. See the step-by-step guide.
- Use the same browser each time, because the saved list lives on that device.
- An account can disappear because it was deactivated or deleted, not only because it unfollowed you.
